STUDIO GOSSIP - Summer / Autumn 2006

SORRY. . .
Once again abject grovelling for being so late updating the old website. I know Ivor is asking what on earth have you been up to all this time down there in Somerset?

LAST YEAR
Not the best of times as I was diagnosed with some ticker problems and have had to go in to be Dyno-Rodded. As a result we had to cancel some of the shows we usually do and I did not get as much work done as hoped. The Royal Bath and West Show is still our number one event of the year but we will not be doing the New Forest Show or The Dorset Steam Fair. As the gallery in Street is open every day of the year and for more than 60 hours a week it is a major commitment and that has to come first.

COMMISSIONS
Having spent many years building up the stock of images for the gallery I am once again taking orders for specially commissioned paintings. In the past I did a great number of rural properties for various clients. Two recent tasks include a painting of a watermill and cottages for a landowner in Devon and a study of a 1925 Delage car for a vintage car enthusiast Should anyone wish to book my time during the next year for a special picture of their own please contact me for details. Often if it is a property that is to be painted it may look it’s best at a certain time, so if the commission is a present for someone I can always supply a certificate for the event stating that time has been booked for a future date for the work.

SKETCHES and WORKING DRAWINGS
Customers have often asked if the drawing displayed in the gallery are for sale. In the past they were just there to show the work that goes into creating a painting. However as a result of threes requests I have been dusting the cobwebs off some old boxes at home and am sorting out various sketches which when cleaned up and framed make attractive original works from £45 to £300

FURTHEST FLUNG PICTURES and a CHINESE DISTASTER
We keep hearing tales of how far and wide my pictures go and it would be really interesting to know what far-flung corners of the globe they wind up in. I know there is one in New Guinea and certainly in the Falklands, as well as all the usual places such as Australia and New Zealand where they are heavily into old tractors.
One customer took ‘Counting Sheep’ to China as a present for one of their suppliers in business and had the frustration of seeing it fall off a luggage trolley in front of them and being unable to prevent it happening, they then had the horror of watching the next trolley run over it.
Mind you they did come home and buy another one to replace it so one mans what’s it is another mans thingummy

FIELD- MARSHALL TRACTORS NEW AND OLD
There are no more standard copies of ‘The Old Field Marshall limited edition available, there are however a few artist’s proof ones at the moment which I have remarqued (that is each one has a little sketch in the corner by the signature) contact the studio re availability and prices.
However to keep the Field Marshall enthusiasts happy now that the limited edition has sold out I have painted a new picture of that well loved machine as an open edition. It is quite a different picture, the same size as ‘The Little Grey Fergie’ and ‘The Old Landy’ which it makes a nice set of pictures with.

GREETING CARDS
We are selling more and more cards by mail order, some old designs may be dropped or out of print at times but there are also some new ones including some of the Childhood Days ones that so many have been asking for so have a look at the catalogue and remember they are all available as small framed pictures.

THRESHING NOT THRASHING
Note for the customer who wanted a copy of Thrashing Day it is Threshing not Thrashing
